To promote Awareness of Arnold Chiari Malformation, the color purple for the ACM ribbon and the zipper head attachment were chosen for specific symbolic reasons. The name "Zipperhead" is a term of endearment commonly used by Chiarians in reference to themselves as the Chiari surgical incision on the back of the head and neck resembles a zipper. The color purple was chosen because it is the color of royalty and faith. The sterling silver pin is 3/4" (20mm) long and 5/16" (8mm) wide.
